how do blue light glasses work?
So, do they actually work?
Blue light glasses contain lenses that are supposed to block and/ or filter wave lights that are emitted specifically from screens. The goal is to protect the retina from this ‘unnatural’ light that is produced by all computers, tv’s, phones, tablets etc.
The American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF) claims that there is no evidence that this blue light can actually damage the eye, but studies show that this blue light compromises the body’s circadian rhythm. This light is shown to suppress melatonin production, and mess with our sleep cycle - hence why we are encouraged to decrease screen time hours before actually going to bed. Blue light glasses are also claimed to help with eye strain that goes along with over-usage of screens.
